For Providers
I am a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience in both conventional and functional medicine, focused on supporting individuals navigating mold-related and environmentally complex illness.
My role is to support your patients between visits by helping them understand and implement the treatment plans you establish, reducing overwhelm and improving follow-through.
How I Support Your Patients
I work from the treatment plans you provide, supporting patients in implementing and navigating them between visits. When helpful, I am available for brief communication to support continuity of care.
I help patients:
Understand and follow treatment plans in a manageable way
Pace and titrate protocols, especially for sensitive or reactive individuals
Reduce confusion and overwhelm between appointments
Stay consistent and engaged in their care
Environmental Support
I also support patients in navigating the environmental aspects of care, including home testing, identifying appropriate inspection and remediation resources, and making decisions around creating a safer living environment.
This often helps patients move forward more clearly and reduces the burden on providers to guide these complex non-clinical aspects.
Experience & Background
My clinical background includes women’s health, gastroenterology, medical-surgical, and orthopedic care. I am trained in a functional medicine approach and have completed advanced training in mold and environmental illness, including Dr. Jill Crista’s Mold Practitioner Intensive.
I also actively collaborate in clinical practice supporting environmental health and complex chronic illness.
Patients I Work Best With
I work especially well with patients who are highly sensitive or reactive, including those with MCAS, those who feel overwhelmed by complex treatment plans, and those navigating both health concerns and environmental exposures.
Collaboration
My goal is to support your work, not replace it. I help patients better understand and follow through with your recommendations while providing steady, practical support between visits.
Referrals
If you feel a patient would benefit from additional support, you are welcome to have them reach out directly or contact me to discuss whether this would be a good fit.
“Kara’s support was truly enriching. Her time, expertise, and energy were such a gift, and I’m genuinely excited for all the people who will get to work with her on their healing journey.”
— Lynn Townsend, Colorado
”Kara was great to work with. She taught about toxin prevention for myself and my teenage daughter, offering me helpful resources. After we had a flood from a burst connection on a new washing machine, she guided us on the steps to get our house taken care of promptly so we could avoid mold growth and prevent future issues. She helped us think of practical and low cost solutions and she was interested in solutions that would work well for our particular needs. ”
